CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team dropped a non-conference game to C.W. Post University, 4-1 Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 2-3 overall on the season, while the Pioneers, ranked seventh in the latest East Region poll, improve to 3-1.
C.W. Post tallied three goals in the first half, including two within a five-minute span, to take a commanding 3-0 lead. In the 70th minute, sophomore midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth), left, received a long pass from sophomore defender Mia Valente (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and blasted a shot over goalkeeper Allie Weiser and into the upper right corner of the goal to make the score 3-1. With Caldwell trying to get back into the game, the Pioneers' Alexa Niciforo tallied her second goal of the game in the 79th minute to put the game out of reach.
Junior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (East Islip, NY/Islip Terrace) played the second half and recorded six saves for Caldwell. Freshman Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) started and made two saves. Weiser ended up with one save for the Pioneers.
Next up for Caldwell is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against defending CACC champion Georgian Court University on Saturday, Sept. 17. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell Field.
