CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars, who won 25-10, 25-5, 25-15, improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Golden Falcons drop to 0-8, 0-3 CACC.
The first set saw Caldwell break open a slim 8-6 lead with six straight points, then close out the set with six points in a row for a 25-10 win. Juniors Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) and Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline), and sophomore Becca Feczer (Findlay, OH/Findlay) each had three kills apiece. The Cougars dominated the second set, hitting .417 with 10 kills and no errors en route to a 25-5 victory. Feczer tallied four kills in six attempts. In the final set, Felician tied the score at 8-8 before four consecutive service aces from senior Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) sparked an 8-0 run that put Caldwell ahead 16-8. Three kills from senior Brittany Denter (Detroit, MI/Kingsley) down the stretch helped the Cougars close out a 25-15 win.
Feczer, pictured, finished with a game-high eight kills while hitting .583. Roth helped the Cougars hit .306 for the match with 27 assists to go with six aces and nine digs. Defensively, freshman Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) tallied 12 digs, and Mosher added four total blocks.
The victory also allowed Caldwell to even its record at 72-72 since re-establishing the volleyball program in 2006. The Cougars, coached by Megan Hrbek, went 4-41 over the first two years and have compiled a 68-31 record since the start of the 2008 season.
Caldwell hosts Bloomfield College in a CACC match on Thursday, Sept. 15, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
