CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) notched her second two-goal game in a row to help the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeat Bloomfield College, 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win evens the Cougars' overall record at 2-2 and improves their conference mark to 2-0, while the Lady Deacons drop to 1-4, 0-2 CACC.
Caldwell broke the scoreless tie in the 15th minute. Freshman midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) beat her defender in the right corner and drove the ball into the penalty area, where sophomore forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) one-times a shot into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, a long pass from junior defender Sarah Royse (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) allowed Migoya to get in behind the defense and score her first goal of the game. The score remained 2-0 until the 83rd minute, when Migoya finished a pass from freshman forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) for a 3-0 lead. Migoya, who leads the team with four goals, scored twice in the Cougars' 3-2 victory at Holy Family University on Saturday to earn CACC Rookie of the Week honors.
Junior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (East Islip, NY/Islip Terrace) made five saves to record her first shutout of the season. Bloomfield's Robyn Burton made two saves in the loss.
Caldwell hosts C.W. Post University in a non-conference game on Thursday, Sept. 15, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
