ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Dominican College, 89-51 Wednesday evening at Dominican's Hennessy Center. The loss gives the Cougars an overall record of 7-13, including a 4-8 mark in the conference, while the Chargers improve to 14-10, 10-4 CACC.
Almin Hodzic and Cory Quimby scored five points apiece to help Dominican open the game with a 24-8 run over the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Cougars were able to pull within 13 points three times in the half before the Chargers built the lead back up to 17, 43-26 at the halftime break. Caldwell shot 30.0 percent from the floor in the first half compared to 55.6 percent for Dominican.
A basket by junior center Peter Diffley (Bellemore, NY/Episcopal) and a conventional three-point play from sophomore forward Arthur Morrison (Phillipsburg, NJ/APEX) at the start of the second half helped Caldwell cut the deficit to 45-31 with 18:36 remaining in the game. But the Cougars would get no closer, as Khaleev Ginyard hit two three-pointers to spark a 14-4 run that put Dominican ahead, 59-35. Morrison, pictured, led the Cougars with nine points, while freshman guard Patrick O'Connell (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) tallied five assists. Hadzic paced the Chargers with a game-high 18 points and six blocks.
Caldwell hosts the University of the Sciences on Saturday, Feb. 12 in another CACC contest. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
