ANDERSON LIFTS CALDWELL PAST FELICIAN IN WOMEN'S HOOPS, 55-51

CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) registered 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to lead the Caldwell College women's basketball team to a 55-51 victory over visiting Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday night in the George R. Newman Center. The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 13-4 on the season, including a 9-2 mark in league play, while the Golden Falcons drop to 13-6, 7-5 CACC.

The Cougars used a 15-1 run midway through the first half to take a 19-7 lead with 8:29 left in the half. Senior guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) scored six points in the run, with Caldwell forcing nine Felician turnovers. The Golden Falcons came back with a 13-2 run to close out the half and make the score 21-20 Caldwell at the break. Quay Baskerville had six of her eight first-half points during the run. Both teams shot the ball poorly in the first 20 minutes, with Caldwell making just 20.6 percent from the floor compared to 26.7 percent for the Golden Falcons.

Things heated up for the Cougars in the second half, as six different players scored in a 17-6 spree to start the half that put Caldwell up 38-26 with 11:46 on the clock. An Anderson lay-up with 7:33 remaining gave the Cougars their largest lead of the game, 45-32. Felician battled back, and despite trailing by nine with less than a minute to play, a conventional three-point play by Katrina Plummer and a basket from Baskerville made it a four-point game, 53-49 with 22 seconds left. But the Golden Falcons never came closer than four points, as junior forward Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.

Caldwell shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half, with Anderson making 7-of-9 en route to 15 second-half points. She also grabbed 10 of her 15 boards after halftime. Sophomore center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) came close to a triple-double, tallying 10 points, 10 rebounds and a career-best eight blocks, while Jones finished with 12 points and three steals. George also pitched in with eight points and six assists. Destiny Barnette paced the Golden Falcons with 17 points, with Baskerville adding 12 points, 14 rebounds and four steals.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC contest at Philadelphia University on Saturday, Feb. 5. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
