OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team began play at the Dowling College Tournament, losing to C.W. Post, 79-70 Saturday afternoon at the Dowling Gymnasium. The Cougars fall to 1-3 on the season with the loss, while the Pioneers improve to 4-1.
C.W. Post shot 55.3 percent from the field in the first half compared to 37.8 percent for Caldwell to take a 48-39 lead at halftime. In the second half the Cougars used a 9-2 run, sparked by a three-pointer from freshman forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School), to pull to within three, 57-54 with 11:32 remaining. But the Pioneers maintained the upper hand, eventually putting the game away with a 10-2 run that made the score 77-64 with 1:38 left to play.
Sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) was a bright spot for Caldwell, tallying 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go with nine rebounds to lead the Cougars. Junior center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) added 16 points, and junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) had 13 points and six boards. Felicia Joyner recorded 18 points, and Nicolette Marciniak added 14 points and 11 boards for C.W. Post.
Caldwell wraps up play at the Dowling Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 27 against the host Lions, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Oakdale, N.Y.
