CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to NYIT, losing 25-19, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14 Friday night in the George R. Newman Center. The loss gives the Cougars a 13-4 record on the season, while the Bears improve to 12-5 with the win.
NYIT took control of the match by winning the first set 25-19, led by Shelby Cable's nine kills. The Bears dominated the second set, putting away 17 kills compared to just three for Caldwell en route to a 25-16 win and a two-set lead. The Cougars bounced back in the third set with 19 kills, including seven from junior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) and five from junior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive), for a 25-20 victory. But Caldwell struggled in the fourth set, as NYIT had 15 kills on its way to a 25-14 win.
McDonough, left, finished with 13 kills and a team-high 15 digs, while Mosher had 12 kills and a .243 hitting percentage. Junior Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) contributed 14 digs, while senior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) notched 31 assists and 12 digs. Cable ended up with a match-high 26 kills for the Bears, who also received 47 assists from Damla Albayrak and 26 digs from Lisa Peacock.
Caldwell plays Holy Family University on Saturday, Oct. 8, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match. The first serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
