PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell College volleyball team earned a pair of victories in a tri-match held at Philadelphia University's Gallagher Center Saturday afternoon. The Cougars beat the host Rams 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match before defeating Southern Connecticut State 3-0 in a key East Region match to improve to 17-4 overall (12-1 CACC).
In the day's first match, Caldwell outlasted Philadelphia (11-11, 8-5 CACC), 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10. Junior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) had a match-high 15 kills to go with 24 digs, while junior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) added 10 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) recorded nine kills, and senior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dished out 44 assists. Defensively, junior libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) racked up 37 of Caldwell's 106 digs. The Rams were led by Brittany Olson, who had 11 kills and 11 digs.
Against Southern Connecticut (16-7), McDonough put away 11 kills as the Cougars cruised, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14. Roth registered 38 assists in three sets to help the Cougars hit .303 for the match. Mosher and freshman outside hitter Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) each tallied nine kills, while sophomore middle blocker Becca Feczer (Findlay, OH/Findlay) had eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Amon again paced the defense, keeping 22 balls off the floor in the win. Megan Lyons had eight kills for SCSU.
Caldwell hosts Dominican College on Tuesday, Oct. 18 in a CACC match. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
