COUGARS DOWN GEORGIAN COURT, FALL TO DOWLING IN VOLLEYBALL TRI-MATCH

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team hosted a tri-match against Georgian Court University and Dowling College Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars (13-2, 9-0 CACC) remained unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 triumph over Georgian Court (5-13, 4-5 CACC), while Dowling (12-3) topped Caldwell in four sets in a non-conference match.

Against Georgian Court, the Cougars held off a scrappy Lions squad in the first two sets before cruising to victory in the third set, when Caldwell hit .379 en route to a 25-9 win. Junior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) had 12 kills with no errors for a hitting percentage of .571. She also contributed three blocks. Junior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) recorded 10 kills and a team-best 15 digs, while freshman Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) tallied 12 digs. For the match, Caldwell hit .253, with senior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) contributing 31 assists to go with three service aces.

The meeting with Dowling was a rematch of last year's NCAA East Region first round match, won by the Golden Lions in three sets. On Saturday, Dowling won the first set 25-20 before Caldwell came back strong with a 25-21 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. Mosher and McDonough each had four kills to pace the Cougars. But Dowling, who won the East Region and advanced to the national semifinals in 2010, proved to be too much, putting down 13 kills with five total blocks in the third set and recording 14 kills in the fourth set to take the match. Mosher paced Caldwell again with 14 kills, and McDonough added 13 kills and 14 digs. Junior Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) notched a team-high 20 digs. Bethany Shepard led Dowling with 17 kills, with Maja Potpara tallying 46 assists.

Dowling swept Georgian Court 3-0 in the day's other match.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC match at Dominican College on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
