PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - A goal by sophomore forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) in the 58th minute helped the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeat Chestnut Hill College, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Victory Field. With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league play, while the Griffins drop to 5-5, 3-3 CACC.
Freshman forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) put Caldwell on the scoreboard in the fourth minute with a goal off an assist from senior Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) for a 1-0 lead. It was Migoya's team-leading seventh goal of the season. The lead held until the 55th minute, when Steph Litty scored for the Griffins to tie the score at 1-1. Just over two minutes later, Crankshaw stole the ball from a Chestnut Hill defender, broke in alone on goalkeeper Jessica Veazey and scored to give Caldwell a 2-1 lead. The Cougar defense made the one-goal lead stand, as junior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (East Islip, NY/Islip Terrace) recorded five saves after Crankshaw's goal to secure the win.
Cabales finished with a season-high 10 saves on the day for Caldwell, while Veazey tallied seven saves for Chestnut Hill.
Caldwell hosts Goldey-Beacom on Monday, Oct. 3 in a CACC match. The game begins at 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell Field.
