FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost its season opener, 4-1 to Queens College Wednesday afternoon at Queens' Campus Field. The non-conference defeat gives the Cougars an 0-1 record on the new campaign, while the Knights earn their first win of the season to improve to 1-2.
Caldwell netted its first goal of the season just two minutes into the game, when freshman midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) took advantage of a defensive miscue and scored for an early 1-0 Caldwell lead. Katherine Colon tied the game for Queens with a goal in the 20th minute, then put the Knights ahead with her second tally of the game in the 37th minute. Queens scored a pair of goals in the second half to put the game out of reach for the Cougars, who were out-shot 18-5 for the game. Caitlin Gracia had two assists in the win for Queens.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) registered four saves in goal for Caldwell, while Allison Breakey made one save for the Knights.
The Cougars begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 11 with a home game against Chestnut Hill College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
