CALDWELL SPLITS PAIR OF MATCHES AT NEW HAVEN VOLLEYBALL INVITE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College volleyball team defeated Bentley University in three sets before losing to Holy Family University in five sets at the University of New Haven Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Cougars are now 1-2 on the season.

In the day's first match, Caldwell outlasted Bentley 27-25 in the first set before cruising to its first victory of the season by winning the next two sets 25-15 and 25-21. The Cougars were led by sophomore outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) with 13 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), who missed all of last season due to injury, tallied 10 kills and a .421 hitting percentage. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) delivered 30 assists, while senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) registered 15 digs. Bentley, which has made the NCAA Regional Tournament in each of the past six years, was led by Andrea Farah with 11 kills.

Against Holy Family in a non-conference match, Caldwell dropped the first set 25-8, then won the next two by identical scores of 25-19. The Tigers came back to win the fourth set, 25-20, then took the match with a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set. The victory snapped a four-match losing streak to Caldwell. McDonough recorded 11 kills and 16 digs, with Mosher pitching in eight kills. Senior libero Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst), pictured, notched 19 digs defensively, while Roth and sophomore Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) each had 16 digs. Jillian Keeve and Sarah Ambach paced the Tigers with 15 and 13 kills, respectively.

Next up for Caldwell is a non-conference match at NYIT on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
