COUGAR VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO NEW HAVEN IN SEASON OPENER

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College volleyball team began the 2010 campaign with a 3-0 loss to the University of New Haven Friday night at Chargers Gymnasium. The Cougars, who were 21-12 and won their second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division title last year, fell 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 to the defending Northeast 10 champion Chargers. The defeat marked the opening match of the New Haven Invitational.

Sophomore outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) paced the Caldwell offense with nine kills, while senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) tallied seven kills and two solo blocks. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) registered 19 assists to go with 11 digs. New Haven was led by Keidy Candelaria's 11 kills and 17 digs. The Chargers recorded 63 digs in the win, with Heather Ladao tallying a team-high 19 digs.

The Cougars continue play at the New Haven Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Bentley University at 9:00 a.m. and Holy Family University at 2:00 p.m.
