WATERBURY, Conn. - The Caldwell College volleyball team won a five-set match at Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference meeting Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The Cougars, who have won their past seven matches, are now 9-3 overall and 6-0 in league play, while the Eagles fall to 6-9, 4-2 CACC.
Caldwell cruised in the first set 25-14 while posting a .314 hitting percentage. Post answered with a 27-25 win in the second set, overcoming 16 Caldwell kills. After the Cougars won the third set 25-14, Post forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory. In the decisive fifth set, Caldwell hit .500, with nine kills and no errors in 18 attempts, en route to a 15-11 win. For the match the Cougars hit .217 compared to .139 for the Eagles, and registered 92 digs over the five sets.
Sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), right, led all players with 19 kills and a .364 hitting percentage to go with five total blocks, while junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) recorded 12 kills and seven total blocks. Senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) added 11 kills. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dished out 40 assists and had 10 digs and three service aces, while sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) registered a season-high 29 digs. Post was led by Elizabeth Knight, who had 11 kills.
Caldwell hosts Concordia College in a CACC match on Thursday, Sept. 30. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
