ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Junior defender Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) tallied the game's only goal as the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Dominican College, 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Wednesday afternoon at the DC Soccer Field. With the win, the Cougars even their record at 3-3 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in league play. The Lady Chargers are now 4-2 overall, 2-2 CACC.
The game was scoreless into the second half until the 51st minute. Junior forward Giana Scerbo (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) passed the ball to D'Orsaneo in the Dominican penalty area. D'Orsaneo curved a shot from 16 yards out into the upper left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season for D'Orsaneo, who led the Cougars last year with three goals and nine points.
The Caldwell defense, led by sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip), kept the Lady Chargers off the scoreboard to preserve the win. Cabales tallied six saves, while Veronica Iozzi made one save for Dominican, which held an 11-7 advantage in shots.
The Cougars will be looking for another CACC victory when they play at Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Sept. 25. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
