CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team recorded a season-best .269 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Monday night in the George R. Newman Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Golden Falcons drop to 2-7, 1-3 CACC.
The Cougars had little trouble in the first two sets, winning 25-14 and 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead. Senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) tallied six of Caldwell's 15 kills in the first set, while senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) had a team-high four kills in the second set. In the third set, Caldwell trailed most of the way until four straight kills put the Cougars on top 22-18. A kill by sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) made the score 24-20 and set up match point. But Felician scored the next three points to cut the lead to 24-23. After a long rally, Mosher, right, put down the final kill to take the set and the match. Caldwell racked up 21 kills in the third set while hitting .302.
Pecora (.417 hitting percentage) and Mosher (.348) each had 12 kills to pace the offense, while junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) recorded 31 assists in two sets of action. Sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) registered 18 digs to pace the Cougar defense. Jenna Matesic had seven kills for Felician.
Caldwell takes on Nyack College in another CACC match on Thursday, Sept. 23, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
