BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team kicked off the 2010 season with a 3-1 loss to the University of Bridgeport Thursday evening at Knights Field. The game was the season opener for both teams and completed the first day of the Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic.

The Cougars got off to a good start as freshman forward Mosiah Whyte (Coram, NY/Newfield) scored a goal from the left side off an assist from senior midfielder Bryan Broderick (West Keansburg, NJ/Raritan) in the 19th minute. Bridgeport pulled even just a minute and 20 seconds later with a goal by Markus Naglestad off a free kick. Naglestad helped the Purple Knights take the lead three minutes before halftime by assisting on Arnold Hitolaj's goal for a 2-1 advantage. Hitolaj tallied an insurance goal in the 63rd minute, with Naglestad providing the assist.

Junior goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) recorded nine saves for the Cougars, who are coming off a 3-12-1 season in 2009. Bridgeport, who was picked to finish third in the East Coast Conference this year, received one save from Danny Hernandez.

The Cougars wrap up play at the Bridgeport Classic on Saturday, Sept. 4 with a non-conference game against Southern Connecticut State. The match is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at Knights Field.
