PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - An own goal in the second minute of the second overtime period allowed Philadelphia University to defeat the Caldwell College women's soccer team, 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. The difficult loss drops the Cougars to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the Rams improve to 2-1-3 overall, 2-0 CACC.
Philadelphia racked up 14 shots in each of the first two halves and took three shots in the first overtime period, but could not solve senior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell). Hoenig, right, who stopped a penalty kick in a 1-0 win over Bloomfield this past Tuesday, made 15 saves to keep the Rams off the scoreboard. One minute and 27 seconds into the second overtime period, the ball went off a Caldwell defender and into the goal, giving the win to Philadelphia, which avoided recording its fourth tie in six games this season.
Caldwell was credited with four shots, including a shot on goal by freshman defender Casey Piekos (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff). Philadelphia's Kelli Kowalewski made one save for the shutout.
The Cougars play a non-conference game at N.Y.I.T. on Monday, Sept. 20, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
