ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - After dropping the first set, the Caldwell College volleyball team won the next three to defeat Dominican College, 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Friday night in the Hennessy Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Chargers fall to 5-8, 2-1 CACC.
In a tight first set, the Cougars tied the score at 22-22 with two straight points. Kills by Dominican's Michelle Fiorvanti and Randi Garrett created set point for the Chargers, then Whitney Ranger followed a kill by senior Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) with a kill of her own to take the set, 25-23. Sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) tallied three kills in the second set to lead the Cougars to a 25-17 win. After senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) notched five kills in a 25-20 victory in the third set, Caldwell registered 12 kills and a .243 hitting percentage to take the fourth set 25-20 and win the match.
Roesing, pictured, led all players with 16 kills for the match, while Mosher finished with 12 kills and a .345 hitting percentage to lead the Cougars. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) registered 34 assists, seven kills and four service aces. Garrett had a team-high nine kills and Whitney tallied eight kills and 31 assists for Dominican, which was the only CACC North team to beat Caldwell last season.
The Cougars play a non-conference match at the College of St. Rose on Saturday, Sept. 18, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
