BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with a three-set sweep of Bloomfield College, 25-20, 25-13, 25-15 Tuesday evening at the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The win on the road evens the Cougars' overall record at 3-3, while the Lady Deacons fall to 0-4 overall, 0-2 CACC.
Caldwell led from start to finish in the first set, getting six kills from junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) to take the opening set. The Cougars led by as many as 13 points in the second set en route to a 25-13 win, led by three kills from sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive). In the third set, Caldwell held a slim 16-15 advantage before tallying the final nine points to wrap up the sweep. Freshman Tiffany Grupp (St. Louis, MI/St. Louis) notched three service aces during the final run, while Mosher, Alao and senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) each tallied three kills in the set.
Alao led all players with 11 kills while posting a hitting percentage of .348. Mosher and Pecora had nine kills apiece for the match, with junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) registering 25 assists. Sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) paced the defense with 17 digs. Suzy Zanette led Bloomfield with nine kills.
Caldwell returns to action on Friday, Sept. 17 with a CACC match at Dominican College. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
