JULIE CRANKSHAW GIVES CALDWELL A 1-0 WIN OVER BLOOMFIELD IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute to lift the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win is the first of the season for the Cougars (1-2) and evens their conference record at 1-1. The Lady Deacons drop to 2-2 overall, 0-2 CACC with the loss.

With the game scoreless, a penalty kick was awarded to Bloomfield in the 60th minute after a hand ball was called in the Caldwell penalty area. Stacey Jones took the kick for the Lady Deacons, but senior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell), pictured, made a lunging save to her right. Jones pounced on the rebound and shot again, but again Hoenig made the save, keeping the game tied at 0-0. Six minutes later, Crankshaw received a throw-in deep in Bloomfield territory to the right of the goal. Her first shot was blocked by a defender, but she collected the rebound and laced the ball inside the left post for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Deacons did not threaten to score for the remainder of the second half, as the Cougars wrapped up their first win of the season.

Hoenig made two other saves on the day for a total of four saves en route to her 9th career shutout. Adriano Moreno recorded seven saves, as the Cougars held a 16-10 advantage in shots.

Caldwell takes on Philadelphia University in a CACC contest on Saturday, Sept. 18. The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
