CALDWELL, N.J. - A goal in the 62nd minute allowed Chestnut Hill College to defeat the Caldwell College women's soccer team, 1-0 in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game for both teams Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss keeps the Cougars winless on the season at 0-2, while the Griffins improve to 2-1.
The game remained scoreless until about 16 minutes into the second half. Steph Litty controlled a loose ball on the right side and sent a pass into the middle, where Lauren Nolte collected the ball and beat Caldwell goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) to her right. Caldwell's best chance for the equalizer came shortly after the goal, when senior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) blasted a shot from 25 yards out that was parried by Griffins goalkeeper Jessica Veazey. Sophomore midfielder Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) ran onto the rebound but her shot was blocked by a Chestnut Hill defender.
Veazey tallied three saves for the shutout, while Cabales made four saves in goal for Caldwell. The Griffins held a slight edge in shots, 9-7.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 with a CACC match against Bloomfield College. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
