FELICIAN STOPS CALDWELL IN WOMEN'S HOOPS, 79-70

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team fell to Felician College, 79-70 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Thursday evening at Job Gymnasium. The loss drops the Cougars to 10-10 on the season, including a 6-7 conference record, while the Golden Falcons improve to 12-7, 6-5 CACC.

After Felician started the game with an 11-1 run, Caldwell responded by tying the game at 17-17 at the 8:18 mark with a 16-6 run of its own. The Cougars took their first lead of the game when a pair of baskets by sophomore forward Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) keyed an 8-0 spree that made the score 27-24 Caldwell with 3:17 left in the half. Felician eventually tied the game, then took a 33-31 lead into halftime following a basket by Tierra Cleaves.

Felician's Janelle Biamonte helped the Golden Falcons get off to a quick start in the second half, hitting three three-pointers in building a 44-37 advantage at the 16:00 mark. Five points from freshman center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) allowed Caldwell to reduce the deficit to four, 48-44. But Felician used two threes from Quay Baskerville while forcing four Caldwell turnovers to spark a 16-1 run that resulted in a 64-45 bulge with 10:35 remaining. The Cougars responded with a 15-3 run that saw junior guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) score nine points to pull to within 67-60 with 6:32 on the clock. But that's as close as the Cougars would get, as Felician maintained the upper hand to end a 10-game losing streak to Caldwell.

Freshman guard Torey Jones (N. Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.), pictured, led the Cougars with 20 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Leedham finished with 18 points, while Lambert grabbed a team-best eight boards and scored 11 points. Biamonte hit all four of her three-point attempts in the second half en route to a game-high 21 points for Felician, which received 18 points from Baskerville. Cleaves also dished out 14 assists in the win.

Caldwell returns home to host Philadelphia University on Sunday, Feb. 7. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
