CALDWELL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT BLOOMFIELD, 82-73

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team suffered a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference defeat at Bloomfield College, 82-73 Thursday night in the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The loss is the first in league play for the Cougars, who are now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the CACC. The Lady Deacons are now 2-4 on the season, including a 1-0 conference mark.

Bloomfield took control of the game in the first half and built a 26-10 lead over the game's first 11 minutes. A 9-0 run helped the Cougars cut the deficit to five, 31-26 with under three minutes left in the half, only to have the Lady Deacons push their lead up to 37-27 at the 1:30 mark. A three-pointer by sophomore guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) before halftime made the score 37-30 at the break. Caldwell shot 50.0 percent from the field compared to 35.0 percent for Bloomfield in the first half, but the Cougars committed 18 turnovers.

The Lady Deacons maintained the upper hand in the second half, eventually using a 14-4 run sparked by six points from Dre'Shonda Williams to take a commanding 60-43 advantage with 10:20 to play. Caldwell staged a comeback by scoring 16 of the next 20 points, capped by a three-pointer from junior guard Stephanie Cadet (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial), that made the score 64-59 with under six minutes remaining. The spread was still five points when Bloomfield's Iliriana Lulgjuraj drained a three-pointer, followed by a Caldwell turnover and a basket by Robyn Burton, that put the hosts up 75-65 with 1:54 on the clock. The Cougars never came closer than seven points the rest of the way, giving Bloomfield its fifth straight win at home over Caldwell.

Jones, pictured, led all players with 22 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists, while freshman forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) tallied her second straight double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Tiffany McDaniel led the Lady Deacons with 20 points and eight steals, while Burton had 18 points and Williams finished with 17 points, six assists and four steals.

Caldwell hosts Dominican College in a CACC contest on Saturday, Dec. 11. The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
