COUGARS ELIMINATED FROM CACC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNEY WITH 3-1 LOSS TO HOLY FAMILY

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team, seeded fifth, lost to fourth-seeded Holy Family University, 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Monday afternoon at Tiger Field. The result eliminates the Cougars from the tournament and ends their season at 10-8, while the Tigers (12-5-1) advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 4 in Lakewood, N.J.

Holy Family opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an unassisted goal by Jillian Shank. Dawn Curry made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute, scoring off a corner kick from Kristi Whittaker. The Cougars pulled to within a goal just under 10 minutes into the second half, when freshman midfielder Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) knocked in a rebound off a shot by freshman forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.). But Caldwell would get no closer, as the Tigers tallied an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 83rd minute. The Cougars outshot Holy Family 15-13 for the game, including 9-4 in the second half.

Sophomore Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) and senior Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) split time in goal for Caldwell, with Cabales making three saves in 58 minutes and Hoenig recording two saves in 32 minutes. Holy Family's Gina Mansi had five saves in the win.

The loss ended up being the final game wearing the Scarlet, White and Gold for seniors Hoenig, Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie), Shannon Ellenbart (Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Regional), Lauren Mastellone (Howell, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Eliza Urciuoli (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell). Hoenig, the only four-year player in the senior class, is the only Cougar in the 13-year history of the program to play in the CACC Tournament in each of her four seasons at Caldwell.
