ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Molloy College, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15 Thursday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The defeat ends the Cougars' winning streak at nine and leaves them with an overall record of 11-4 on the season, while the Lions improve to 4-17.
Caldwell cruised to a first set victory, hitting .424 without an attack error while getting five kills from senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.). Molloy came back to even the match by winning a close second set, 25-22. In the third set the Cougars were hampered by 10 attack errors as the Lions won the set 25-21. Caldwell managed just six kills compared to 16 for Molloy in the fourth set, as the Lions won 25-15 to take the match.
Junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining), right, paced Caldwell with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Pecora finished with 11 kills. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) had 38 assists to go with eight digs, and sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) tallied a team-best 16 digs. Molloy's Angelica Nicalek led all players with 21 kills.
Next up for Caldwell is a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against Holy Family University on Saturday, Oct. 9. The home match begins at 1:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
