NO. 24 DOWLING DEFEATS CALDWELL VOLLEYBALL IN THREE SETS

OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College volleyball team fell to Dowling College, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 in a non-conference match Thursday evening at the Dowling Gymnasium. The loss ends a four-match winning streak for the Cougars, who are now 17-7 on the season. The Lions, who are ranked 24th nationally in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II poll, improve to 23-1.

Dowling broke open a close first set that at one point was tied 11-11 by scoring 11 of the final 12 points for a 25-14 win. Sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) had three kills in the set for Caldwell. The Cougars battled back in the second set to pull to within two points, 20-18, before the Lions tallied five of the next six points to win 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Caldwell had 11 kills in the second set compared to nine for Dowling, but committed 10 attack errors and two service errors. The third set saw the Lions register 16 kills and a .379 hitting percentage en route to a 25-15 win and the sweep. Dowling hit .301 for the match compared to .030 for Caldwell, which was the lowest hitting percentage of the season for the Cougars.

Junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining), pictured, led all players with nine kills while hitting .444. Mosher finished with seven kills, with junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) distributing 18 assists. Sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) paced the Cougar defense with 11 digs. Dowling was led by Patrycja Klekotka with eight kills.

Caldwell plays a tri-match at Wilmington University on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Cougars face the host Wildcats in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at 12:00 p.m., followed by a non-conference contest against Lincoln University at 2:00 p.m.
