ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - A pair of goals by senior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) gave the Caldwell College women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over Molloy College in a non-conference game Wednesday night at the Dean Skelos Complex. The Cougars improve to 9-7 on the season with the win, while the Lions drop to 5-9-1.
D'Orsaneo's first goal came in the eighth minute, when a long throw-in by sophomore defender Burcu Kulaksiz (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) found D'Orsaneo in the Molloy penalty area. Her shot went into the upper part of the goal for an early 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until 15 minutes into the second half. A pass by freshman forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) sent D'Orsaneo in alone on Lions' goalkeeper Tricia Zarro. She beat Zarro and scored her second goal of the game and third of the season.
The Cougar defense kept Molloy off the scoreboard, with sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) making three saves to preserve the shutout, her fifth of the season. Zarro was not credited with a save, as the Lions held a 12-8 advantage in shots. Caldwell's nine wins are the most for the program since the 2004 season, when the Cougars finished 11-8-2.
Caldwell completes the regular season with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game with Felician College on Friday, Oct. 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
