WILMINGTON, Del. - Senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) registered nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage as the Caldwell College volleyball team defeated Goldey-Beacom College, 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Jones Center. The victory gives the Cougars an overall record of 16-6, including a conference mark of 13-2. The loss drops the Lightning to 7-16, 1-13 CACC.
Caldwell cruised to a 25-10 win in the first set, as freshman defensive specialist Tiffany Grupp (St. Louis, MI/St. Louis) served five consecutive aces at one point in the set. The second set was much more competitive, as the Lightning led 16-10 before the Cougars came back to tie the score at 19-19. After a Goldey-Beacom kill from Rebecca Stoffer, Caldwell scored the next six points to take the set, 25-20. Pecora tallied five kills on six attempts in the third set, as the Cougars hit .320 for the set en route to a 25-19 win and a three-set sweep. Caldwell posted a .207 hitting percentage for the match compared to .048 for Goldey-Beacom in recording its third consecutive CACC sweep.
Pecora led all players with nine kills, while senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) and sophomore right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) notched seven kills apiece. Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dished out 21 assists over the first two sets, and junior setter Brittany Denter (Grawn, MI/Kingsley), pictured, had 13 assists in the final set. Sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) registered 12 digs to lead the defense. The Lightning was paced by Stoffer, who had seven kills.
Next up for Caldwell is another CACC match against Post University at home on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
