NYACK, N.Y. - Junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) tallied 14 kills without an error to lift the Caldwell College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Wednesday night at Bowman Gym. With the win, the Cougars improve to 15-6 overall and 12-2 in league play, while the Warriors drop to 5-11, 5-9 CACC.
Alao and senior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) each had three kills as Caldwell won the first set 25-17. The Cougars led 18-9 in the second set before the Warriors came back to pull to within three points, 23-20. But a kill by Alao and a Nyack service error gave Caldwell a 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Alao had seven of Caldwell's 15 kills in the second set, utilizing just 10 attack attempts. The Cougars led for the majority of the third set en route to a 25-10 triumph and a sweep, as Alao notched four kills. The win completes the season sweep of Nyack for Caldwell, which has won the past eight meetings with the Warriors.
Alao recorded her 14 kills without an error in 28 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. She also had four total blocks in the match. Pecora finished with seven kills, while junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) had 19 assists in the first two sets. Defensively, sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) and freshman defensive specialist Tiffany Grupp (St. Louis, MI/St. Louis), pictured, registered 14 and 10 digs, respectively. Amelia Moore led Nyack with nine kills.
Next up for Caldwell is a CACC match at Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Oct. 23. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
