BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) scored three goals as the Caldwell College women's soccer team beat Concordia College, 7-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon. The offensive outburst allows the Cougars (8-5 overall, 7-3 CACC) to clinch a spot in the CACC Tournament, which includes the top eight teams in the conference standings. The Clippers are now 2-13, 1-10 CACC.
Crankshaw, pictured, opened the scoring in the eighth minute, when she knocked a rebound off a shot by freshman midfielder Rebecca Nadeau (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Regional) for a 1-0 Caldwell lead. Less than two minutes later, Crankshaw made it 2-0 with a goal off a throw-in by sophomore defender Burcu Kulaksiz (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst). In the 23rd minute, junior defender Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) worked a give-and-go with sophomore defender Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) that resulted in a goal by D'Orsaneo, her fourth tally in her past four games. Just 26 seconds later, freshman midfielder Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4-0 Caldwell.
In the second half, Julie Crankshaw completed the hat trick when she headed home a corner kick from senior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) in the 49th minute. Jackie Crankshaw picked up her second assist of the game with a through ball that sprung junior forward Giana Scerbo (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) for a breakaway goal in the 69th minute. Freshman midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) completed the scoring in the 89th minute, when she punched in a rebound off a shot by senior Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) for her first collegiate goal. Caldwell's seven goals marked the Cougars' most goals in a game since an 8-2 win over Felician College in the 2005 regular-season finale.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) made five saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Nicole Carroll notched nine saves for the Clippers after facing 22 Caldwell shots.
The Cougars host Wilmington University in a CACC contest on Saturday, Oct. 23. The game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
