LAKEWOOD, N.J. - A goal by junior defender Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) in the 59th minute lifted the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at the GCU Track and Field Complex. The Cougars have won three in a row to improve to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The Lions, winless in their last four games, are now 6-6-2 overall, 5-4-1 CACC.
D'Orsaneo broke a scoreless tie 15 minutes after halftime, when she pounced on a rebound off a shot from freshman midfielder Francesca Marinucci (Melbourne, Australia/Haileybury) and knocked the ball in the goal for her fourth of the year and second game-winning goal in as many games. D'Orsaneo scored twice, including the decisive goal in the 81st minute, in a 3-2 triumph over Post University on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) registered five saves for her third shutout of the season. Cabales hasn't allowed a goal in her last 296 minutes played, stretching over four games. Georgian Court's Shealyn Sullivan made two saves in the loss.
The Cougars return to action on Monday, Oct. 18, when they play a non-conference game at 17th-ranked C.W. Post. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m. in Brookville, N.Y.
