CALDWELL VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO BLOOMFIELD IN FIVE SETS FOR FIRST CACC DEFEAT

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team lost to Bloomfield College in five sets, 19-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 19-17 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Tuesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The defeat is the first conference loss of the season for the Cougars, who are now 9-1 in the CACC and 12-5 overall. The Lady Deacons improve to 7-8, 6-4 CACC.

Caldwell appeared to have the match under control, winning the first two sets while hitting a combined .230 compared to .171 for Bloomfield. But the Lady Deacons never gave in, battling to a 23-23 tie in the third set and winning the final two points to stay alive in the match. Bloomfield trailed 23-22 in the fourth set and bounced back with two kills by Suzy Zanette and a Caldwell attack error to tie the match and force a fifth set. There were 13 ties and nine lead changes in the decisive set, with Caldwell holding off match point twice and Bloomfield doing the same one time. With the set tied at 17-17, a service error by the Cougars gave the Lady Deacons their third match point. A Caldwell attack error proved to be the difference, as Bloomfield won the final set 19-17. It was the Cougars' first loss at home to a CACC North Division foe since the 2007 season.

Junior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) registered a school-record 56 assists to go with 14 digs for Caldwell. Senior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), right, had 15 kills and 11 digs, while junior middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) recorded 14 kills and three blocks. Sophomore libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) and senior defensive specialist Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) paced the defense with 26 and 19 digs, respectively. Zanette finished with a match-high 18 kills for Bloomfield, while Evelyn Ferreira and Brittany Devries notched 25 and 24 digs, respectively.

The Cougars host Dominican College in another CACC North Division battle on Thursday, Oct. 14. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
