CALDWELL, N.J. - Junior defender Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) tallied two goals and an assist, and scored the game-winner in the 81st minute to give the Caldwell College women's soccer team a 3-2 triumph over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win is the Cougars' fifth in their last six games and improves their overall record to 6-4, including a 5-3 mark in league play. The Eagles drop to 1-12-1, 1-6-1 CACC.
D'Orsaneo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, heading in a corner kick from her sister, senior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie), for a 1-0 lead. Just 33 seconds later, Post's Stephanie Marran got on the end of a pass from Sabrina Sinopoli and scored from 15 yards out to tie the game at 1-1. In the 28th minute, freshman forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) was fouled in the penalty area and a penalty kick was awarded to the Cougars. Nikki D'Orsaneo took the kick, but Post goalkeeper Elizabeth Johnson made a diving save to her left. D'Orsaneo chased down her own rebound and centered the ball to senior defender Eliza Urciuoli (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell), who scored from five yards out for a 2-1 Caldwell lead.
The lead held until the 71st minute. An Eagles' corner kick bounced off a defender and ended up on the foot of Sara Cramer, who sent a soft shot across the face of the goal from the right side. The ball bounced off the far post and into the goal to tie the game at 2-2. With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, a foul was called on Post in the center of the field about 35 yards out from the Eagles' goal. Nikki D'Orsaneo stepped up and hammered the free kick over Johnson and under the crossbar for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Johnson recorded six saves for Post, which was out-shot 21-6 for the game.
Next up for the Cougars in a CACC contest at Georgian Court University on Saturday, Oct. 16. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
