BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's soccer team was defeated by Dowling College, 3-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The loss keeps the Cougars winless on the season at 0-3, while the Golden Lions, who advanced to the national finals last season, even their record at 3-3.
The game remained in a scoreless tie until the 41st minute, when Moussa Keita scored an unassisted goal off a free kick to give Dowling a 1-0 lead. Less than four minutes into the second half, Corey Desmond finished a cross from Chris Cano for a two-goal advantage. Lamine Traore completed the scoring with a tally in the 64th minute, with Carl Rydin earning the assist.
Caldwell sophomore goalkeeper John Londono (West New York, NJ/Memorial) made a career-high 10 saves in goal for the Cougars. Dowling's Chris Kucera recorded two saves to earn the shutout.
The Cougars begin Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 19, with a game at Chestnut Hill College. The kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Penn.
