COUGARS TOP POST, 68-56 IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

CALDWELL, N.J. - Freshman guard Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) scored a career-high 21 points off the bench to lead the Caldwell College women's basketball team to a 68-56 victory over Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Tuesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The win gives the Cougars an 8-11 overall record on the season, including a 6-3 mark in conference play. Post remains winless in the CACC with an 0-10 record (3-17 overall).

With Post holding a slim 16-15 lead midway through the first half, Caldwell scored the next eight points to take control of the game with a 23-16 advantage. The Cougars took their largest lead of the half on a basket by senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) just before the end of the half that gave Caldwell a 34-26 halftime lead. Sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) scored 10 points in the first half for the Cougars.

The Eagles were able to pull to within six points, 36-30 three minutes into the second half. But two baskets by Lambert and a lay-up from Leedham pushed the lead to 12, 42-30 with 15:37 to play. Caldwell led by as many as 16 points when a steal and lay-up by sophomore guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) made the score 60-44 with 6:46 on the clock. A three-pointer by Elizabeth Johnson helped Post cut the deficit to 60-49, but that's as close as the score would get, as the Cougars ended a two-game losing streak with their second win over Post in the past week. Caldwell forced 22 Post turnovers and held the Eagles to 4-of-24 shooting from three-point range for the game.

Lambert, pictured, who tallied 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, went 9-of-14 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Leedham finished with 14 points and a career-best nine boards, while Lynch had nine points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Lynéa Blue (Jersey City, NJ/Marist) also had a strong game off the bench with nine points, six rebounds and six assists. Mallorie Michalak and Cassidie Ern both scored 12 points to lead Post.

Next up for Caldwell is another CACC match-up with the University of the Sciences on Saturday, Feb. 7. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Penn.
