ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Dominican College, 61-51 in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season for both teams Wednesday night in the Hennessy Center. The Cougars fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Chargers are now 2-2.
Caldwell trailed by as many as eight points in the first half before cutting the deficit to 29-25 at halftime. A three-pointer by Leon Porter capped a 9-1 run to start the second half and give Dominican a 38-26 advantage. The Cougars answered with an 11-3 run of their own with six different players scoring to pull to within four, 41-37 with 11:42 left in the game. But a seven-minute scoring drought led to an 8-0 spree and a 49-37 advantage for the Chargers with 4:45 remaining. Caldwell came within six points in the final minute of play but could not avoid losing its fourth straight game of the season.
The Cougars made 37.0 percent from the field in the game, including 1-of-15 from three-point range. Junior guard Antonio Brimley (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Eastside) recorded 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals, while senior forward Matt Cohen (Forked River, NJ/Manasquan) had a career-high 10 points to go with four rebounds. Junior guard Dante Rollins (East Orange, NJ/Bloomfield Tech), left, pitched in nine points. Porter was one of four players to score in double figures for Dominican with 14 points, while Cory Quimby had 11 points and 10 boards in the win.
