LE MOYNE EDGES CALDWELL IN OVERTIME AT ECAC HOLIDAY CLASSIC, 62-57

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost a close game to Le Moyne College, 62-57 in overtime at the ECAC Holiday Classic, hosted by Caldwell College Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The defeat is the fourth straight loss for the Cougars, who are now 3-5 on the season. The Dolphins improve to 4-5 with the win.

Le Moyne held a 52-50 lead with 37 seconds remaining following a pair of free throws by Siobhan Shields. On the next possession, freshman guard Torey Jones (N. Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) found freshman center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) under the basket for the game-tying lay-up with 17 seconds on the clock. The Dolphins came up empty on the final possession of regulation, sending the game to overtime. Muffy Sadler opened the scoring in the extra session with a three-pointer and Le Moyne never looked back. Six points from Sadler helped the Dolphins out-score Caldwell 10-5 in overtime to clinch the victory.

The Cougars trailed by as many as six points in the first half before reeling off a 17-6 run to close out the half and take a 30-24 lead into halftime. Sophomore forward Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) had nine points in the half for the Cougars. There were five lead changes in the second half and the teams were tied five times, including at the end of regulation. The Cougars shot just 30.7 percent from the field and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the free throw line for the game.

Felix finished with a team-best 14 points, while Lambert (pictured) tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards for Caldwell. Jones and junior guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.) each had 12 points while combining to shoot 8-of-37 from the field. Junior guard Abena George (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) dished out seven assists and swiped four steals. Katie Hart recorded 18 points and 16 rebounds for Le Moyne and was named the Player of the Game.

In other action at the ECAC Holiday Classic, Shannon Lavelle tallied 12 points and three assists to lead Dominican College past East Stroudsburg, 73-46.

The Cougars will play East Stroudsburg on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. on the final day of the ECAC Holiday Classic, with Dominican facing Le Moyne at 12:00 p.m.
