CALDWELL WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES CACC MATCH WITH NYACK

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team battled Nyack College to a scoreless tie Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game. The result gives the Cougars a 2-8-1 record on the season, including a 2-3-1 mark in league play. The Warriors are now 3-7-1, 2-5-1 CACC.

Caldwell held the advantage for most of the game, recording 26 shots to six for Nyack. Junior Lauren Mastellone (Howell, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) hit a shot from point-blank range in the first half that was saved by Nyack goalkeeper Shannon McNeeley. Near the end of regulation, Nyack's Alisha Smith broke in behind the defense but her shot went wide. With less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime period, sophomore Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) drilled a free kick from 30 yards out that McNeeley deflected over the crossbar. On the ensuing corner kick, freshman Sarah Royse (Northvale, NJ/Old Tappan) had an open header at the back post, but her shot went over the goal. With time running down, Nyack's Stephanie Mercier sent a header just wide off a corner kick.

Freshman goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) made two saves to record her first career shutout. McNeeley finished with six saves in goal for Nyack.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC home game against Philadelphia University on Saturday, Oct. 10. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
