CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team swept Wilmington University and Southern Connecticut State University in a tri-match Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The victories extend the Cougars' winning streak to a season-high seven matches, giving them an 18-11 overall record, including a 15-3 mark in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Wilmington topped the Owls in five sets in the second match of the day.

Against CACC foe Wilmington, the Cougars got off to a quick start with a 25-16 victory in the first set. Freshman outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) had five kills and junior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had four as the Cougars racked up 18 kills and a .438 hitting percentage in the first set. Momentum stayed with the Cougars into the second set as the team had 13 kills in a 25-15 win. McDonough notched five kills in the second set to pace Caldwell. The third set was much closer, as Wilmington pulled to within one, 19-18. But Caldwell regained control of the set and tallied six of the final eight points to claim the match. McDonough's seven kills, along with five more from Roesing and four from junior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) sparked the Cougars to register 19 kills in the third and final set.

McDonough finished with 17 kills, 10 digs and three blocks, while Roesing had 11 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) tallied 36 assists to help Caldwell hit .310 for the match. She also had six kills and eight digs. Freshman libero Maddy Amon (Shelbyville, KY/Bishop Moore) led the defense with 19 digs. Meghan Frick put away 13 kills for the Wildcats (14-15, 9-9 CACC).

The match against Southern Connecticut (22-9) marked the final regular-season home match for senior middle blocker Ashley Collins (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Twp.), and the Cougars made it a memorable one. After trailing early in the first set, Caldwell came back to take the lead and hold off the Owls, 25-23. Pecora had five kills. The second set was all Cougars, with McDonough getting five kills en route to a 25-9 win. A close third set finished off the day, with Caldwell expanding on a slim 19-18 advantage with six of the last eight points to win 25-20. Pecora had four more kills and finished with nine.

McDonough had 11 kills and 12 digs to lead Caldwell. Roth dished out 32 assists, while Amon had 20 digs defensively. Collins, who is the last remaining player from the inaugural 2006 team, registered four kills to match her career high.

Caldwell plays a non-conference match at Molloy College on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
