CALDWELL EARNS CACC WOMEN'S SOCCER VICTORY OVER GOLDEY-BEACOM, 2-1

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team scored two first-half goals, then held on for a 2-1 victory against Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The win clinches a berth in the CACC Tournament for the Cougars (6-9-1 overall), who currently sit in sixth place with a conference record of 6-4-1. The Lightning drops to 2-12 overall, 1-9 CACC.

Just over three minutes into the game, a hand ball was called in the Goldey-Beacom penalty area. Sophomore midfielder Nikki D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) placed the ensuing penalty kick into the right side of the goal for a quick 1-0 Caldwell lead. In the 34th minute, D'Orsaneo passed the ball ahead to junior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie), who crossed the ball towards the Lightning goal. The ball came through to the far post, where freshman midfielder Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) knocked it home for a 2-0 advantage.

Goldey-Beacom made things interesting in the 71st minute, when Marissa Valladares received a pass from Kate Attenberger, dribbled around a defender and scored from 15 yards out to cut Caldwell's lead to 2-1. Caldwell controlled play the rest of the game to close out the win, holding an 8-1 advantage in shots in the game's final 19 minutes. The Cougars out-shot the Lightning 23-10 for the game, including 16-2 in the second half.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded three saves in goal for Caldwell. Goldey-Beacom's Kristin Degenhardt recorded eight of her nine saves in the second half.

The Cougars wrap up the regular season with a CACC game at Holy Family University on Saturday, Oct. 31. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
