COUGAR WOMEN'S SOCCER STRIKES EARLY IN WIN OVER CONCORDIA

CALDWELL, N.J. - Four first-half goals, including two in the first six minutes, allowed the Caldwell College women's soccer team to beat Concordia College, 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The victory gives the Cougars a 5-9-1 record overall and a 5-4-1 mark in the conference, while the Clippers fall to 3-9, 2-6 CACC.

Just 39 seconds into the game, junior forward Jackie D'Orsaneo (Bowie, MD/Bowie) received a long throw-in from junior midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay), turned and fired a shot past Concordia goalkeeper Jen Stefankiewicz for a 1-0 lead. At the six-minute mark, D'Orsaneo set up junior forward Lauren Mastellone (Howell, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) with a pass that sent Mastellone down the right side. Her shot from 18 yards gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead six minutes and two seconds into the game.

In the 17th minute, Frankenfield notched her second assist of the game with a long cross to the far post that freshman midfielder Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) headed home for a 3-0 advantage. Then in the 31st minute, sophomore forward Giana Scerbo (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) knocked in a corner kick from senior forward Nicole Laureigh (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) to put Caldwell on top 4-0. The Cougars hadn't scored four goals in the first half since a seven-goal outburst against Felician College in an 8-2 win on Oct. 28, 2005. Concordia got on the board in the 61st minute, when Susan Valencia blasted a free kick from 25 yards out that glanced off the upper section of the left post and into the goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) started and made four saves in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) played the second half and made two saves. Stefankiewicz finished with two saves for the Clippers, who were out-shot 17-10.

Next up for Caldwell is another CACC contest at home, as the Cougars host Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Oct. 24. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Caldwell Field.
