CALDWELL VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS FELICIAN IN THREE SETS

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team ended a two-match losing skid with a three-set victory over Felician College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash Tuesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The win is the second of the season over Felician and boosts the Cougars' overall record to 12-11, including a 10-3 mark in conference play. The Golden Falcons fall to 4-20 overall, 3-10 CACC.

After falling behind early in the first set, the Cougars took control midway through the set with a 10-5 run that made the score 21-15. Junior middle blocker Keesha Francois' (Elkins Park, PA/Cheltenham) fourth kill of the set, combined with a service ace by junior Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) helped the Cougars finish a 25-18 win. Junior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) notched five kills in the set. Caldwell led from start to finish in the second set, with Roesing and sophomore setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) tallying three kills apiece in the 25-17 victory.

With the third set knotted at 9-9, Caldwell gained the upper hand by scoring 13 of the next 16 points for a 22-12 advantage. Felician made it close and reeled off six straight points to pull to within four, 22-18. But kills by Francois, sophomore outside hitter Elise Lennon (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus), pictured, and freshman outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) lifted Caldwell to a 25-19 win and the sweep.

Roesing and McDonough each had nine kills and eight digs apiece for Caldwell, with Roesing recording a hitting percentage of .368. Roth finished with 28 assists and six kills with no errors in nine attempts. Defensively, Francois and McDonough each had three blocks, Estes tallied 11 digs and freshman libero Maddy Amon (Shelbyville, KY/Bishop Moore) had a team-best 13 digs. Amber Doran registered eight kills and 10 digs to lead the Golden Falcons.

Caldwell hosts its second straight CACC North opponent on Thursday, Oct. 22, when Nyack College visits the Newman Center. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
