CALDWELL TOPS BLOOMFIELD IN VOLLEYBALL FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Caldwell College volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match on Tuesday, beating Bloomfield College in four sets, 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest at the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The victory keeps the Cougars (11-9 overall) unbeaten against CACC North Division opponents and improves their conference record to 9-1. The Lady Deacons fall to 4-13, 4-7 CACC.

The Cougars led from start to finish in the first set, with junior middle blocker Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA/Cheltenham) and freshman outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) recording four kills apiece. The second set was much closer, with neither team leading by more than four points. With the score tied at 22-22, Caldwell scored the final three points on a kill by McDonough and two Bloomfield attack errors to take the set and a 2-0 lead.

Bloomfield came back in the third set with 15 kills and a .333 hitting percentage to force a fourth set. The 25-22 loss in the third set was the first time Caldwell has dropped a set to a CACC North Division opponent this season. The Cougars asserted themselves in the fourth set with 16 kills and a .300 hitting percentage for an easy 25-16 win to clinch the match. Junior outside hitter Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.), right, led the way with five kills in the final set.

McDonough finished the match with a team-high 13 kills to go with 11 digs. Also recording a double-double was junior outside hitter Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) with 10 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Titilola Aloa (Ossining, NY/Ossining) had 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, and sophomore setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) registered 37 assists and 13 digs. Freshman libero Maddy Amon (Shelbyville, KY/Bishop Moore) led all players with 22 digs. Ursula Pereira tallied 27 kills and 13 digs for Bloomfield.

Caldwell plays at Dominican College on Thursday, Oct. 15 in another CACC North clash. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
