COUGAR WOMEN'S SOCCER UPENDS PHILADELPHIA, 1-0

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Philadelphia University, 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The victory was the first over the Rams in seven meetings for the Cougars, who improve to 3-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play. Philadelphia suffered its first conference loss of the season and fell to 8-3-3, 6-1 CACC.

With the game scoreless in the 34th minute, a corner kick from senior forward Nicole Laureigh (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) found junior midfielder Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay) at the far post. Frankenfield's first shot was blocked by a defender, but the rebound bounced back to her. She fired her second shot into the back of the goal for her first goal of the season and the second game-winning goal of her career. Philadelphia's best chance to tie the score came in the 76th minute, when Dana Rokoszak had an opportunity in front of an open goal. But her shot bounced off the crossbar and the Cougars cleared the ball out of danger. Philadelphia took 11 shots in the second half and out-shot Caldwell 16-10 for the game.

Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell) recorded her first shutout of the season with six saves in goal for Caldwell. Kelli Kowalewski made three saves for the Rams.

The Cougars play at Post University on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The CACC contest is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
