COUGARS ROLL PAST CONCORDIA IN VOLLEYBALL, 3-0

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Sophomore middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) recorded 11 kills and six total blocks to lead the Caldwell College volleyball team to a 3-0 triumph over Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday night at Concordia. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 8-9 overall and 6-1 in league play, while the Clippers drop to 0-13, 0-7 CACC.

After trailing early in the first set, Caldwell tied the score at 10-10 before scoring 15 of the final 19 points to take the set, 25-14. Freshman outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) had six kills and Alao had five as the Cougars registered 15 kills in the set. The second set was much closer, with the Clippers leading by as many as three points. With Concordia ahead 20-19, the Cougars reeled off six consecutive points to take the set and a 2-0 lead. Sophomore setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) served the final five points, while Alao and juniors Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Acad.) and Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) recorded kills during the final run.

Caldwell took control of the third set and built leads of 14-5 and 20-6 en route to a 25-10 win and the sweep. McDonough had three kills as the Cougars hit .474 with 11 kills and two errors in 19 attempts. Caldwell hit .304 for the match, marking the second straight match in which the Cougars recorded a hitting percentage above .300. The team also tallied a season-high 11 total team blocks, contributing to the Clippers hitting -.013.

Alao had 11 kills and two errors for a hitting percentage of .533. McDonough (nine kills, one error in 15 attempts) also hit .533, while Roesing and junior middle blocker Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA/Cheltenham) had five kills apiece. Roth dished out 29 assists, and freshman Maddy Amon (Shelbyville, KY/Bishop Moore) tallied a team-best 10 digs. Chelsea Zurcher led the Clippers with six kills.

Next up for Caldwell is a CACC match at Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday, Oct. 3. The contest starts at 2:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
