 ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with an 82-73 loss to Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Thursday evening at the Hennessy Center. The Cougars fall to 7-10 overall and 5-2 in league play despite 29 points from sophomore guard Kirsty Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England/Cheshire Acad.). With the win, Chargers (11-8) remain on top of the CACC North Division with an 8-1 CACC record.

The Cougars held a slim lead for most of the first half. A conventional three-point play by Leedham with 4:45 remaining in the half put Caldwell ahead 24-23. Dominican answered with a 10-2 run to close out the half and take a 33-26 advantage into the break. Shanice Scully scored all six of her first-half points in the final 2:26 to account for Dominican's first-half edge.
Leedham heated up in the second half, hitting a pair of three-pointers to help the Cougars pull to within one, 39-28 with 16:13 left in the game. With Caldwell trailing by two with 11:15 on the clock, seven straight points punctuated by a three-pointer by Rachelle Sainten, pushed the Chargers' lead to 60-51 with 9:48 to play. The Cougars never came closer than six points the rest of the way, as the Chargers used hot shooting to keep the Cougars at bay and maintain the upper hand. A three-pointer by Adele Laskowski with 1:42 on the clock gave Dominican its largest lead of the game at 79-68. Dominican shot a sizzling 60.0 percent (18-of-30) from the field in the second half, countering a pretty good shooting performance in the half by the Cougars (13-of-22, 59.1 percent). 
Leedham hit all 10 of her three-point attempts and scored 24 of her 29 points in the second half. Leedham, who struck for a career-high 43 points at Post University on Tuesday and had a game-high 29 points at Nyack College on Jan. 24, is averaging 33.7 points over her last three games. Senior forward Mackenzie Lynch (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) notched 15 points, nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. Freshman guard Kaitlyn Lambert (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) also had 15 points, while freshman guard Lynéa Blue (Jersey City, NJ/Marist) scored 10 points. Althea Chambers tallied 18 points and nine boards for Dominican, while Laskowski pitched in 17 points.
Caldwell returns home to play CACC foe Georgian Court University on Saturday, Jan. 31. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
