CALDWELL, GEORGIAN COURT BATTLE TO 3-3 TIE IN WOMEN'S SOCCER

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw with Georgian Court University through two double-overtime periods in an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon at a rainy Caldwell Field. Senior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ/Manchester) scored twice, including the game-tying goal with 21 seconds remaining in regulation, as the Cougars are now 1-6-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. The Lions are now 2-6-2, 2-1-2 CACC.

Paknis put the Cougars ahead in the 26th minute with a goal for the highlight reel. Paknis gained possession of the ball at midfield, dribbled though several defenders and into the penalty area, where she beat the Lions' goalkeeper Lindsay Hammond with a shot from 15 yards out. Georgian Court tied the game in the 34th minute when Katherine Gooch headed home a cross from Shannon Mastrogiovanni. Two minutes later, sophomore defender Morgan Frankenfield (Coplay, PA/Whitehall Coplay) hit a long shot that Hammond got a hand on. But senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX/Billy Ryan) was there to knock the rebound in the goal for a 2-1 Caldwell lead.

The score remained 2-1 until late in the second half. Georgian Court's Kelly Lyons tied the game with a header off a corner kick by Skyler Eiceman in the 80th minute. Two minutes later, Lyons struck again when a pass from Alana Carr sent her in alone on Caldwell goalkeeper Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ/Howell). Lyons scored her second goal of the game to put the Lions ahead 3-2 with eight minutes left. With the clock winding down, a foul was called outside Georgian Court's penalty area. Paknis took the ensuing free kick and blasted a shot off the far post and into the goal to tie the game at 3-3. Neither team was able to net the game-winner through two 10-minute overtime periods, and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Hoenig made two saves in goal for Caldwell, with Hammond recording eight saves for the Lions. Paknis and Lyons each recorded their second straight multi-goal game, as Paknis score four goals against Felician on Sept. 24, and Lyons netted a hat trick on Sept. 25 against Goldey-Beacom.

Next up for the Cougars is a CACC game against Dominican College on Thursday, Oct. 2. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
