CALDWELL VOLLEYBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Caldwell College volleyball team started the 2008 season with a loss to Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference match Tuesday night. The Cougars, who were 4-24 a year ago, lost in three sets, 25-11, 25-16 and 25-18. With the win, the Owls improved to 4-1 on the season.

Caldwell trailed throughout the first two sets before taking the lead early in the third set. With the Cougars leading 10-9, the Owls tallied eight of the next 10 points to grab a 17-12 advantage. The visiting Cougars never got closer than three points the rest of the way, as SCSU cruised to the three-set victory.

Freshman right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) led the Cougars with six kills and eight digs, while freshman setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) had 15 assists. SCSU's Jenna Tammel led all players with 12 kills and 11 digs, with Andrea Nolan recorded 27 assists in the win.

Next up for the Cougars in a tri-match at Molloy College on Saturday, Sept. 6. Caldwell faces the host Lions at 11:00 a.m. before playing Le Moyne College at 1:00 p.m.
