COUGARS SPLIT A PAIR OF MATCHES AT LE MOYNE TOURNAMENT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Caldwell College volleyball team participated in the first day of the Le Moyne College Tournament, defeating the University of the Sciences, 3-2 and losing to Stonehill College, 3-0 on Saturday at Ted Grant Court. The results give the Cougars a 1-2 record on the season.

The Cougars began play at the tournament with a come-from-behind, five-set victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe USP, 17-25, 17-25, 25-18, 25-10, 15-12. Freshman right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) led all players with 13 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA/Cheltenham) had 10 kills. Senior outside hitter Laura Ciesla (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech), pictured, had a team-best 17 digs, with freshman setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dishing out a season-high 34 assists and recording 14 digs. The win, which does not count in the conference standings, was the Cougars' first over USP in four meetings. Cady Rich led the Devils with 10 kills.

Caldwell was unable to carry the momentum into its second match of the day, as the Cougars fell 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 to Stonehill. Freshman middle blocker Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY/Ossining) had a team-high five kills, while Erin Johnson paced Stonehill with 11 kills.

The Cougars wrap up play at the Le Moyne Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 14 with matches against the University of Bridgeport at 3:45 p.m., and the host Dolphins at 6:00 p.m.
